Have you ever paid any attention to the ringing of the temple bells?
Now what do you listen to? To the notes? Or to the silence between the notes?
If there were not silence would not the notes be more penetrating,
of a different quality? But you see we rarely pay attention to anything;
and I think it is important to find out what it means to pay attention.
